Arraignment set in Pittsburg County sex abuse case

McALESTER — A McAlester man accused of sexually abusing a teenager is scheduled to be formally arraigned next week.

A Pittsburg County judge is expected on Wednesday to set a trial date for 43-year-old Richard Lee Turpin, who is charged with child sexual abuse, inducing a minor to engage in prostitution and two counts of placing an obscene, threatening or harassing phone call after two or more felony convictions.

Turpin is accused of performing a lewd or indecent act by watching a 16-year-old girl undress last year. Turpin is accused of inducing a minor to engage in prostitution charge by offering to pay the girl $200 to let him commit sexual acts on her.

Police investigated him after the girl called her grandmother.

According to court records, Turpin has several prior felony convictions.
