Twin blonde acrobats also get into the swing of the second act, carrying out a complicated, high-stake s aerial ballet on a single shared trapeze, which involves taking turns dangling one another upside down with only their entwined feet preventing a plunge.

Not to be outdone, a pair of muscle men perform a series of “hand-to-hand” gymnastic moves demonstrating remarkable strength, muscle control and balance.

In a grand but somewhat abrupt finale, a graceful quartet of acrobats attached to bungee cords soar, spin and bound through the air in uncanny synchronization, seeming to avoid many near-collisions as they swoop past each other.

Cirque du Soleil isn’t for those with a low tolerance for playful pantomime, whimsical characters and otherworldly music. But the feats of speed, strength and dexterity make for breathtaking spectacle.

This marks the first time Cirque du Soleil has brought “Saltimbanco” to Oklahoma City. Performances continue at 7:30 p.m. today, 3:30 and 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 1 and 5 p.m. Sunday at the Ford Center. For more information, go to www.okfordcenter.com.

The show bounds into Tulsa’s BOK Center Dec. 10-14. For more information, go to www.bokcenter.com.
