CAR accidents

CLAIM 2 lives

Two people died in single-vehicle accidents early Saturday, officials said.

Shirlene Gallegly, 52, Oklahoma City

About 1 a.m., Gallegly was driving west on SE 29 near S Air Depot Boulevard when the car she was driving struck a curb, crossed four lanes of traffic and drove down an embankment before landing in a 10-foot-deep reservoir, Midwest City Police Chief Brandon Clabes said. Gallegly died at the scene, he said. Rescue crews from Midwest City and Oklahoma City could not free Gallegly from her car, which was pulled from the lake by a wrecker, Clabes said.

Ricky Lee Baird, 36, Waynoka

About 4 a.m., Baird was driving east on a Woods County road, one mile southeast of Waynoka, when the pickup he was driving left the road on the right side and struck a mailbox. Baird overcorrected, and the pickup left the road on the other side and rolled twice, according to a patrol report. Baird, who was thrown from the pickup, died at the scene, troopers said. He was not wearing a seat belt.
