PIEDMONT -- A 14-year-old Piedmont boy died early Wednesday when he crashed while driving his parents' car without permission, Piedmont Police Chief Jerry Koester said.
Hestin Cole Farris took the car sometime after 4:30 a.m. and crashed on a dirt road about a mile from his house, Koester said. Police estimate Farris could have been driving in excess of 100 mph when he lost control on Frisco Road near Apache Road . His body was discovered after daylight.
"I don't know exactly why he crashed, but it was probably a combination of speed and inexperience," Koester said.
Farris, who would have been a sophomore this fall at Piedmont High School, was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the car, Koester said.
