Deputy's car hits, kills pedestrian in Calera

CALERA — A Calera man died Saturday night when he was hit by a Bryan County sheriff's office vehicle Saturday night.

Franklin Alex Benton, 20, ran into a northbound lane of U.S. 69 at McKennon Street in Calera at 9:12 p.m. and was hit in the right lane by a car driven by sheriff's deputy Jason Alex Bannowski, 34, of Durant, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.

Benton was pronounced dead at the scene. Bannowski was not injured.
