Former House Speaker Todd Hiett has a campaign account open for the 2010 lieutenant governor’s race but said he is not running.

The Kellyville Republican said he had considered the race but decided against it. He is supporting Sen. Todd Lamb, R-Edmond, who has yet to officially announce.

Hiett said he is still very active in the state GOP and wants to be a person who helps politicians, not be a politician himself.

"I am really just enjoying private life right now,” said Hiett, who served 12 years in the House.

He is using the 2010 account to retire a little more than $200,000 in debt from his failed run for lieutenant governor in 2006. The debt from that campaign has been reduced to under $10,000, he said.

Marilyn Hughes, Oklahoma Ethics Commission executive director, said a candidate can transfer debt from a former campaign to a new campaign.

Hiett said he felt obliged to consider the 2010 race due the support he garnered in the previous race.

He has not ruled out a possible race for governor or another office, he said.
