The Oklahoma Sooners have played with fire this season not having a reliable field goal kicker.

Saturday night, that finally burned them.

Redshirt freshman Tress Way missed three field goals as Nebraska held on for the 10-3 upset.

Way misfired on attempts from 46, 45 and 42 yards. He was wide right on the first, had the second one blocked and was wide left on the third.

Way did connect on a 28-yarder, OU's only points of the game.

But with his misses, the Sooners still haven't connected on a field goal of 40 yards or longer this season, and only have one 40-plus-yarder dating back to 2007, when Garrett Hartley was the team's kicker.

"You have to be able to make field goals in games like you do in practice," coach Bob Stoops said.

Jimmy Stevens was OU's place-kicker to begin the season, but was benched after missing a key 45-yard attempt in a 16-13 loss to Texas.

Stoops said he was considering putting Stevens back in, but never did.
