Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected throughout Oklahoma today with no relief in sight, and flood advisories are active in areas of southeast Oklahoma already soaked by up to five inches of rain this morning alone, according to the National Weather Service.
Thunderstorms were moving across much of southern Oklahoma this morning, and the chance for more today and tonight extends statewide, forecasters said. Few of today's storms are expected to be severe, but the chance for more showers and storms lasts through Thursday throughout the state. In southeastern Oklahoma, storms overnight and today have dumped heavy rain and prompted flood watches and warnings throughout the area. From midnight to 3:50 p.m., Oklahoma Mesonet stations recorded 5.63 inches in Idabel and 5.69 inches in Broken Bow in McCurtain County, 2.39 inches in Hugo in Choctaw County and at least an inch at Mount Herman in McCurtain County, Antlers and Cloudy in Pushmataha County, Tishomingo in Johnston County, Durant in Bryan County and Ardmore in Carter County. At least a trace amount of rain had been recorded at about three-quarters of Mesonet stations statewide. A flash flood warning is active in McCurtain County until 6:15 p.m. Flash flood watches are active until Monday in Atoka, Bryan, Carter, Choctaw, Coal, Garvin, Johnston, Love, Marshall, McCurtain, Murray, Pontotoc and Pushmataha counties.
