Sulphur woman dies after accident

JOY – A Sulphur woman died after a vehicle she was a passenger in was involved in an accident early Saturday morning.

Roseanna Clara Simmons, 19, was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Skyler Deanne Brown, 18, of Sulphur, that was traveling east on a county road east of Joy in Murray County, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.

At about 1:30 a.m., the vehicle ran off the road, struck a culvert, rolled and caught fire, throwing Simmons out of the vehicle, troopers said.

Simmons was pronounced dead at the scene. Brown and another passenger, Marti Ray Phillips, 21, of Sulphur, were treated and released from Mercy Memorial Health Center in Ardmore, troopers said.

Another passenger, John Jordan Cook, 18, of Sulphur, was flown to OU Medical Center, where he is in good condition.

No one in the vehicle was wearing a seatbelt, troopers said.
