Kay County Emergency Management Director Dennis Bonewell said a possible tornado touched down on the eastern edge of Grant County but did not get into Kay County.
He said the tornado went through an uninhabited area and there are no damages.
The Wednesday evening storms followed early-morning damaging winds in the Oklahoma City metro area. Wind gusts in excess of 50 mph were recorded by Mesonet sites in Kingfisher, Logan and Canadian and gusts as high as 59 mph in Oklahoma City.
No injuries were reported, said Michelann Ooten, state Emergency Management spokeswoman.
In Oklahoma City, winds damaged or destroyed dozens of tents at the new farmer’s market location on NW 63 just west of Western Avenue and toppled part of the Oklahoma Law Enforcement Officers’ Memorial at 3600 N Martin Luther King Avenue. Marble and granite portions of the monument were damaged, but the memorial chairman did not have a damage estimate.
The roof of an apartment complex near Northwest Expressway and May Avenue was damaged, and a falling power pole landed on top of a car near NW 122 and Council Road, according to reports to the weather service.
Traffic signs were reported knocked down along Interstate 40 near Sayre.
Chances of showers and thunderstorms continue today. A flash flood watch is in effect.
