SOBOL — A woman and her two grandchildren were killed in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday in Pushmataha County, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.

Monique Lanier, 37, of Fort Towson was westbound on State Highway 3 east of Sobol when her car ran out of gas and stalled in the roadway about noon, troopers said. Her daughter, Shannett Lanier, 22, of Fort Towson got out to push the car off the road, but a westbound tractor-trailer rig slammed into the back of it.

Shannett Lanier jumped out of the way before impact and was treated at the scene for minor injuries, the patrol reported. Monique Lanier and Dalton Phomas, 3, died at the scene. Maurick Lanier, 10 months, died at an Antlers hospital.

The tractor-trailer rig’s driver, Kenneth Hoffman, 44, of Lexington was treated for minor injuries at the scene and released, troopers said.

Monique Lanier was not wearing a seat belt. Dalton was wearing a seat belt and Maurick was in a safety seat. Still under investigation is whether Hoffman was wearing a seat belt, the patrol reported.
