New Republic to rise in spring; Haunted House nears rebirth

Over the weekend, developers with the new Chisholm Creek development on N Western Avenue, just south of Memorial Road, announced Republic Gastropub will be among its first tenants.

"We are thrilled to welcome Republic Gastropub to the Chisholm Creek mix of world-class restaurants and retailers," Whitney Rainbolt, representative for Chisholm Creek, said in a release. "A Good Egg Dining Group has a reputation for stellar quality and genuine hospitality in Oklahoma City and Republic Gastropub is widely-known for its robust selection of craft beer, open-air dining option and sophisticated American food."

Republic will occupy approximately 7,500 square feet on two levels and will feature a dynamic outdoor space within Tract 30, a multi-level building located on Pawnee Drive between Topgolf International and Cabela's.

"This area is a prime intersection for commerce, play and residential," A Good Egg Dining Group President Keith Paul said in the same release. "Through the original concept and planning stages of our first Republic Gastropub, Heather and I, along with Aubrey and Katie McClendon, knew that this concept could travel. Chisholm Creek's mixed-use concept, desirable location and impressive tenant lineup made the development an optimal choice for a second Republic location."

Republic won’t be the only place to eat at Chisholm Creek, which also has Fuzzy’s Taco Shop on board. Sources tell me Republic might not be the only A Good Egg concept to find a home at Chisholm Creek. Besides Republic, Keith and Heather Paul’s restaurant group also includes Tucker’s Onion Burgers, Iron Starr Urban BBQ, Cheever’s Cafe, Kitchen No. 324, and Red Primesteak. The Pauls will open a new seafood restaurant, The Drake, in the coming months at The Rise, corner of NW 23 Street and Walker Avenue. Chef Chad Willis, formerly of The Metro, Saturn Grill and The George, will man the stove at The Drake for corporate chefs Chris McCabe and

Robert Black.

A Good Egg is the first local independent operator to make clear its plans to join the rush to populate the long-vacant southwest corner of Western and Memorial. The retail addition should be a boon to Szechuan Bistro and Opus Prime Steakhouse, which operate on the northeast corner of Western and Memorial.

Also heard on the line, sources tell me the reopening of The Haunted House Restaurant is moving closer to reality. According to sources, new owner Patrick M. Boylan recently hosted a small celebration at the restaurant, which closed in April after more than 50 years in operation. Sources said the party was to celebrate completion of the deal to reopen the storied restaurant founded by Art and Marian Thibault in 1964. Art Thibault died in 1994, leaving his wife Marian to operate the upscale eatery up until April. Marian passed away May 22.

Boylan has yet to confirm plans, but the terms of his winning auction bid required resolution by middle of June. While no official announcement has yet been made, sources indicate The Haunted House will reopen and when it does you can look for the menu to mirror Boylan’s Osage Beach, Mo., restaurant J. Bruner’s.
