My personal vote doesn't totally jibe with that of my fellow judges. My first place winner in both categories would've been from Coco Flow.  The Deep-Fried Chocolate they submitted was the last of 26 items we tried, and was a huge hit with everyone who tried it. But by the time it arrived a number of judges had left, meaning it got no score, which is a problem in cumulative scoring. I loved the Wonderboy and Deep-Fried Banana Pudding. I liked the Caramel Apple and love Rocky Road but I found myself wishing this treat had a little less marshmallow. As for the Bacon-Covered Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough On-A-Stick, I thought there was a pretty good dish somewhere among the ingredients, but what I had came across a convoluted mess. But it was crunchy. Obviously, a lot of folks liked it better than me, and you might, too.

I am surprised by the cinnamon roll's victory because frankly I found it below standard. I've had good cinnamon rolls from the Silver Dollar Concessions in year's past, but this wasn't one of them. (Actually thought something was wrong with the frosting.) But I get it. The famous Silver Dollar cinnamon rolls always draw long lines for a reason. Anticipation for the sweets is always high, and that might've the clouded the palates of some of the judges. Or, I could just have gotten a sub-standard one. Don't let my disappointed experience discourage anyone from standing in line to get their cinnamon roll fix over the next 10 days. As I wrote last night, the Cuban Pork Crepe from Coco Flow was terrific, and the Jalapeno Cheese Curds and Bacon-Wrapped Chicken On-A-Stick were just as delicious this year as they have been every year.

First place winners receive $400, second place winners will receive $200, third place winners will receive
$100 and fourth place winners will receive $50.

I also really enjoyed meeting Nicole Lockhart, one of the wild-card judges who earned her way to the judges table with an essay she wrote. Nicole is a self-professed Chocoholic, who shares a passion for chocolate with her daughter. The other passion in Nicole's life is fighting childhood cancer thanks to her daughter's battle with leukemia. September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month, which she said is severely underfunded.
