Don Mecoy is the business editor at The Oklahoman.

As the years go by, it's becoming more and more rare to find co-workers that have called The Oklahoman home for as long as I have. But those who can -- they're an all-star cast for sure.

Don fits that category.

-- When you get an NewsOK app alert from some news that Steve Lackmeyer broke, you should know that Don took the call about the news, polished the lead and wrote the headline.

-- When you read about the newest retail trends from Brianna Bailey in The Oklahoman on Sunday, you should know that Don is the one who brainstormed the topics before the writing began.

-- When you get in-depth analysis from the local energy industry from Adam Wilmoth and Paul Monies, you should know that Don stayed late to edit the story and made sure it was perfect for our readers.

If you spend much time following news in Oklahoma City on social media, you already know that Don is a major player on Twitter. In recent months, he began what has become a popular daily Twitter post for his followers, including me.

Don has been posting a feature for his followers that shows what was in The Oklahoman on the same date in year's past. It's fun and enlightening.

One day this week, I learned about ad in The Oklahoman in 1942 that urged readers to buy war bonds to defeat Japan.

A different day this week featured a 1982 front page story in The Oklahoman that told about the vote that legalized horse racing in our state.

Don spends a lot of time in The Oklahoman's Archives, a product that ranks near the top of the list of our most educational subscriber benefits. The archives are a great resource for him.

They could be a great resource for every subscriber, too. Access is free with a subscription.

It's just a lot of fun. For more on that, just find Don Mecoy on Twitter.
