Pantone names colors of the year for 2016
Pantone just delivered twins.
One color of the year wasn’t enough for 2016. The color authority named two -- Serenity, a baby blue, and Rose Quartz, dusty rose.
While these colors may bring to mind babies more than fashion, Pantone said consumers are seeking mindfulness and well-being as an antidote to today’s stresses. As a result, they’re welcoming colors that psychologically fulfill a yearning for reassurance and security.
On its website, Pantone Color Institute said the color selection serves as an expression of a mood and an attitude. The colors also play to a gender blur in both fashion and design as people become more comfortable using color as a form of expression and care less about being typecast or judged on their choices.
This is the first time Pantone has introduced two shades for its color of the year. It describes Rose Quartz as a persuasive yet gentle one that conveys compassion and a sense of composure. Serenity is weightless and airy like the expanse of the blue sky, bringing feelings of respite and relaxation even in turbulent times.
