Haunted House gets into the spirit of Easter with brunch

Of course the local restaurant most associated with resurrection is offering  special brunch on the holiday most associated with resurrection

J. Bruner’s at The Haunted House, 7101 Miramar Dr., will offer a special brunch, starting at 11 a.m., on March 27.

The restaurant is the site of a 1963 murder followed by two macabre deaths. The restaurant, which has operated since 1965, has long been a hot-bed for ghost stories and would-be ghost-busters ever since. It's always been a popular place on Halloween and Valentine's Day, now owner Patrick Boylan and general manager Trent Alcott have Easter targeted for fine dining in a Southern Gothic setting.

Boylan and Alcott showed off the seven special brunch items that will accompany the regular menu for the occasion during a recent tasting. Special menu items include Strawberry French Toast, Garden Benedict (fried green tomatoes topped with poached eggs and Hollandaise), Salmon Cheesecake, Breakfast Wellington, Tenderloin Hash, Chicken Fry Benedict and Steakhouse Benedict.

We had a great time at this spectacular property. It's a belt-loosening affair followed by an extensive Sunday nap.

If you're looking for an Easter Brunch option, the Haunted House's incarnation will offer a combination of flavors and atmosphere hard to top.

My recommendation: Gather up six to eight people then order the Salmon Cheesecake as an appetizer, save the Strawberry French Toast for dessert and order three of the remaining five entrees and eat family-style, also sharing some onion rings and an order of the Chicken-Fried Lobster.
