Target’s next collaboration is with Marimekko
Who’s ready for another Target collaboration?
This time, the chain reached out to Finnish design house Marimekko for a collection that will include more than 200 printed pieces including beach and swimwear for women and girls, hammocks, paddle boards, inflatables, furniture and outdoor décor. Oh, but that’s not all. Target is the place if you’re looking for bocce ball sets and parachutes, too.
Do you see the theme? This collaboration is all about play.
The collection lands in stores April 17 with prices ranging from $7.99 to $499.99. Most of the items will sell for less than $50.
Marimekko was created to bring color and cheer back to Finland after World War II. Company founder Armi Ratia asked a few of her artist friends to create avant-garde prints for her husband’s oil-cloth printing factory. But people wanted to wear the bold prints and colors, and that is how Marimekko -- meaning Mary’s dress-- was born.
The colorful prints have been worn by Jacqueline Kennedy, who caused an international sensation when she wore a dress on the cover of Sports Illustrated in 1960, to actress Sarah Jessica Parker.
