Events calendar is a quick way to find something to do in OKC area

A couple years ago, I wrote about the events calendar on NewsOK.com and Oklahoman.com.

I quoted a key member of my family, who said ...

“The events listings on NewsOK work pretty well. Did you know you had that part of the site?”

That still makes me laugh. Did I know? Well, I like to think I know every part of the site. I knew it was there. I knew there were lots of listings pulled together in that one easy-to-browse and easy-to-search page.

But I still forget about how well it works, until I have a free night and need something new to try for an evening out.

I usually search by date. It’s the easiest way for me to find out if there is something happening that I’m unaware of. I found a comedy show at the Civic Center, a play at Guthrie’s Pollard Theatre, an Improv show in the Film Row district and a concert in Bricktown – all on specific nights I was searching for in recent months.

You can also sort the radius of your search. How far are you willing to drive? The default sort is a 50-mile radius. That might be too far, but it pretty much captures the entire Oklahoma City metro area.

Here’s one thing I know. Events calendars can be difficult to manage. There’s a lot to go through and much to organize. We accept submissions from the public. We pull in events that we know of. We remove them when we know they are cancelled.

We can end up with duplicates or a link that didn’t go to the place to buy tickets.

But I also know that the events calendars on NewsOK.com and Oklahoman.com are a great place to start if you are looking for something to do in our community. I know because I’ve used it often, and I’m consistently pleasantly surprised.
