It's finally Friday. Here's a look at the headlines:

Oklahoma's teacher of the year leaving for Texas

The Oklahoman's Ben Felder reports why one great teacher is pulling up the stakes and heading to Texas.

A former state teacher of the year is moving to Texas, saying he can no longer afford to work in Oklahoma on a teacher’s salary.

“The simple truth is that we can be paid a respectable wage for doing the same job — this job we love very much — by heading out of state,” Shawn Sheehan, a Norman math teacher, wrote in a Thursday blog post.

After winning the state's 2016 'Teacher of the Year' honors, Shawn Sheehan tried to address the lack of will in the state Legislature to boost teacher salaries, which are near rock bottom in the U.S. compared to other states. He ran for a state Senate seat, one of dozens of teachers to run for office on an education platform. He lost.

As the Legislature wraps up its work this week there is no teacher pay raise package.

“We’re voting with our feet on this one,” Sheehan wrote.
