HONORING THE REV. RICK STANSBERRY

Occasion: The Rev. Rick Stansberry, pastor of Christ the King Catholic Church, celebrated the 25th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood recently. Six hundred friends and parishioners gathered at the Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club for a seated dinner in his honor.

Program: Archbishop Paul S. Coakley gave the invocation and the Rev. Christopher Brashears and the Rev. Carson Krittenbrink were masters of ceremonies. A video tribute to Father Rick featured family, friends and colleagues. Soprano Mandy Jiran sang "Alleluia" from "Exultate Julilate" by Mozart.

Food/flowers: Guests dined on grilled wedge Caesar salad, roasted chicken breast glazed with local honey and rosemary, mushroom and leek ragout, spinach and a Gouda potato popover. Key lime and chocolate mousse parfaits were served for dessert. Centerpieces were bouquets of white hydrangeas, roses, mums and orchids.

Champagne reception: Preceding dinner was a Champagne reception.

Church: At the 10 a.m. Mass that day, Father Rick was presented an Apostolic Blessing from Pope Francis. Choral anthems were accompanied by Edwin Day on organ and a brass quartet and were conducted by Ken Southard. A reception followed in the Parish Center Atrium where parishioners congratulated Father Rick for his 25 years.

A few facts: Since becoming a priest, Father Rick has presided over 12,000 Masses, 1,400 baptisms, 1,200 first communions, 555 confirmations, 550 weddings, 4,000 anointings and 585 funerals. The numbers do not include confessions or hospital visits.

BEST OF THE WEST BRUNCH

Brunch: Joy Reed Belt was hostess for the annual “Best of the West Brunch” at JRB Art at the Elms Gallery. This event was held on Prix de West weekend. Featured Western artists were sculptor Paul Moore, painter Mike Larsen, photographer Allen Birnbach and painter James Andrew Smith.

Food: Chef Ryan Parrott cooked fried chicken, biscuits and gravy, breakfast tacos, fruit and assorted pastries. Grenda Moss baked a variety of coffee cakes. Also served were mimosas, spicy bloody marys and Champagne.

Got Rhythm: Music was by “The Lost and Found Jazz Band.”

IN SANTA FE

Enchanted evening: Mary and Mike Mahaffey were hosts in Santa Fe for their annual summer gathering. Close Oklahoma friends were among the 100 guests.

The ambience: It was a perfect Santa Fe evening as guests enjoyed cocktails and dinner in the garden and in their fabulous home.

Special touch: A large bowl at the entrance of their drive featured rose rocks, adding a great Oklahoma touch to the fiesta atmosphere.

1967 REUNION

Reunion: Members of the Harding Class of 1967 met for a weekend reunion beginning with a party at the CHK Boat House on Friday night. Saturday, the group toured the school and had lunch at Johnnies. Dinner and dancing that night was at the Will Rogers Theater.

Committee: Working to make the reunion happen were Frank Battle, Kathy Coats, Helen Dailey, Steve Haggard, Cyndy Hoenig, Linda James, Robert Margo, Hal McKnight, Jim Richard, Jim Rust and Bob West.

REDBUD CLASSIC RESULTS

Breakfast: Patty Anthony, Redbud Classic Executive Director, and Nick Tricinella, Redbud Classic board president, gave $18,000 in race proceeds from its 2017 race to Oklahoma Cleats for Kids at a breakfast at Bellini's. They presented the check to Stacey McDaniel, CFK president and board member. Redbud board of directors, along with Bellini's, were hosts. Redbud sponsors, board members and advisory board members also were there.

From the director: “Recognizing Cleats for Kids with this donation is an exciting way to wrap-up our 35th anniversary year," Anthony said. “As an Oklahoma City tradition, we are pleased to see the proceeds of this year's race go to something that is at the heart of our mission — helping children take part in a healthy lifestyle.”

Race results: At the event, Tricinella gave a summary of the April 8-9 race weekend, which drew 4,000 runners and cyclists. He also talked about the 1-mile kids fun run and the third annual Redbud Bash, which included a presentation of race awards, music and children's activities.

The finishing touch: The Redbud Corporate Challenge Trophy was presented to CompSource Mutual Insurance Company represented by Daniel Kraeer and Brad Owens.

OFE ACADEMIC AWARDS BANQUET

Banquet: The Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence recently held its 31st Academic Awards Banquet in Tulsa to honor outstanding students and educators in Oklahoma's public schools. “Be a Trailblazer” was the theme and keynote speaker was H.W. Brands. University of Oklahoma President David L. Boren, founder and chairman of OFE, was master of ceremonies. Entertainment was by the Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute Orchestra.

Medals: Oklahoma Medal for Excellence Awards were given to Jane Williams, Centennial Elementary School, Edmond; Gary Piercey, formerly of Francis Tuttle Technology Center, Oklahoma City; Dr. Robert Romines, Moore Public Schools; Antoinette Castillo, Rose State College, Midwest City; and Dr. Allen Hertzke, University of Oklahoma, Norman. They received $5,000 cash awards as well as a glass “Roots and Wings” sculpture created by the late artist Ron Roberts and produced by Jim Triffo, Oklahoma City. Medallions and Academic All-State Scholarships of $1,000 were presented to 100 All-State Scholars.

Fast facts: The All-State class is from 77 schools in 68 Oklahoma school districts. They were selected from 551 nominations.
