30th ANNIVERSARY OF 40th BIRTHDAY

Let's celebrate: A group of hosts celebrated what they called “Our 30th Anniversary of our 40th Birthday!” at the Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club. The Emerald City Band from Dallas played.

Hosts: Celebrating with 400 friends were Jane and Jon Axton, Sherry and Lee Beasley, Donna and Len Cason, BJ and Mike Cawley, Alice and Don Dahlgren, Beth and Jim Hammack, Patsy and JR Homsey, Ann and Bill Johnstone, Ellen and Carlisle Mabrey, Susan Parker and Drew Neville, Susan and Steve Prescott, and Kathy and Mike Steffen.

Party attire: The invitation stated that guests should wear dancing shoes and summer cocktail.

Food/flowers: Large green, silver, and black balloons decorated the bar area and the ballroom floor. Green hydrangeas and green and yellow orchids were centerpieces. Hosts wore neon necklaces and bracelets. Menu items included pizza, spaghetti, an ice cream sundae bar, hot dogs, sliders and chicken tacos. A three-tiered birthday cake featured lemon, chocolate and strawberry cake layers, and was topped with blazing sparklers.

Entertainment: JR Homsey, in dazzling Elvis Presley regalia, sang three Elvis hits including “I Can't Help Falling In Love With You,” and was accompanied by everyone in the room. He also sang “C.C. Rider” and “Burning Love.” He handed out colorful Hawaiian leis and scarves to the singing crowd.

Honorees: Most of the hosts celebrated or will celebrate their 70th birthday during 2017.

LAST OF THE SERIES

Party: The last of the four July Saloon Series events at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum featured music by Grassland Caravan, a fight of whiskey, gourmet food, and whiskey classes. The after-hours event was held in the museum's turn-of-the century Western town known as Prosperity Junction. About 165 people attended.

Whiskeys: The “Whiskeys of the World” event included Canadian, Japanese and Irish whiskeys.

Next summer: The Museum staff plans to continue the Saloon Series nights next summer.

Now: August Thursdays will feature “Pourings on the Plaza” which includes live music, cash bar, food trucks.

FIRST FRIDAY IN AUGUST

Opening reception: Artists Larry Hefner, Behnaz Sohrabian and Laura Nugent, were at the party at JRB Art at the Elms featuring their outstanding artwork. The opening at this gallery was held during August's First Friday Event in the Paseo District.

On the menu: Rooftop Lemonade was served as well as appetizers prepared by Ryan Parrott from Picasso's Café.
