Parties, Etc. for Sunday, Sept. 17, 201

FIRST LOOK

Ball: The first ball of the social season, the Renaissance Ball, was held at the Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club to benefit the Oklahoma City Museum of Art. About 450 guests enjoyed the happiness of being together after a long summer and they liked catching up on Oklahoma City conversations.

Theme: Lighted lanterns at the front door gave a hint of the Japanese decorations inside, which the chairmen chose after the exhibit “After The Floating World,” part of the Museum's permanent collection, was shown in the spring. Tropical flowers, including lots of orchids and anthuriums, were centerpieces, and around the room were lighted displays of Japanese kimonos from the Museum President and CEO Michael Whittington's personal collection. Prints hanging on the walls of the country club were reproductions from the collection. In the entryway was a huge tropical bouquet with white origami birds positioned over it. Flowers and decorations were by Trochta's Flowers.

Food: The menu featured Pacific Rim salad, with soba noodles, Asian basil, ginger dressing and bean sprouts, dashi braised short ribs, teriyaki grilled shrimp, and matcha tea panna cotta.

What they were wearing: The black-tie party featured pretty dresses, including a black one decorated with colorful flowers worn by Terri Cooper and a black top with pink straps and a pink skirt worn by Linda Haneborg. Joan Frates wore a long, bright blue dress with a v-neckline, and Penny McCaleb's dress was navy blue silk. Judy Love's blue and black stylish dress was topped with a black top.

Added touch: Party information and sponsors were listed on a handheld, foldable Japanese fan which fit right in with the theme.

Chairmen: Martha and Michael Coffman were chairmen for the 42nd annual Ball. Amalia and Paul Silverstein were honorary chairmen. Carly and Tim Sowecke were chairmen of the “Late Night After Party.”

Got rhythm: Immediately following dinner was the “Late Night After Party.” Cocktails were served and there was dancing to the music of DJ Lucy Wrubel, of Dallas. Many of the Renaissance Ball attendees stayed around to dance, wearing necklaces of neon, carrying glow sticks and sporting OCMA sunglasses.

HONORING VICTORIA

Wedding shower: Victoria Hubbard was the honoree at a come-and-go wedding shower in the home of Alison and Scott Calhoon. Hostesses were Jennifer Shadid, the Calhoons, Inda Burchfiel, Penny McCaleb and Marta McCubbin.

Here comes the bride: Victoria and Carter Still will be married in October.

SOCIETIES' OPENING EXHIBITION

Perfect entertainment: Members of the Societies of Oklahoma City University were invited to OCU for an opening reception of Michael Pearce's “The Secret Paintings” exhibition opening.
