Get ready for a reign of purple.

Pantone’s 2018 color of the year is Ultra Violet, described as complex and contemplative and suggesting the mysteries of the cosmos, the intrigue of what lies ahead and discoveries beyond.

That’s a lot to expect from a color

“We are living in a time that requires inventiveness and imagination,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. “It is this kind of creative inspiration that is indigenous to Pantone 18-3838 Ultra Violet, a blue-based purple that takes our awareness and potential to a higher level. From exploring new technologies and the greater galaxy to artistic expression and spiritual reflection, intuitive ultra Violet lights the way to what is yet to come.”

Purple rocked the world when musical icons Prince, David Bowie and Jimi Hendrix favored it for their personal expressions. Pantone describes Ultra Violet as symbolizing experimentation and nonconformity, spurring individuals to imagine their unique mark on the world and push boundaries through creative outlets.

What’s more, Pantone said the color communicates originality, ingenuity and visionary thinking that points us toward the future.

And that immediate future is going to be colored with purple.
