Christmas Past and Future at First National
It was the day before Christmas and the city was stirring, kids were bouncing around the house. And it was then I should see on Twitter on my phone, a glimpse of Christmas future at First National in the Great Banking Hall of course.
Looking back in archives, as far I could see, Christmas was a big deal in grandest place of all.
Here is a photo, in 1934, the giant Christmas is so tall, it took ladders and two men to install.
Here is a another, taken in 1936, the bankers put up a 46-foot-high Douglas fir to ensure everyone they would be visited by Saint Nick.
The tradition continued year after year. But when First National Center closed last year, the end of Christmas in the hall left us in fear.
Gary Brooks, however, is a man of good cheer, and he posted good news on Twitter as Christmas grew near. Do not worry, do not fret. The tree will return to First National, and that may be the best Christmas yet!
