The Oklahoma County jail has been problematic since it opened, and now it's getting some attention at the federal level with an inspection of its operation. 

The U.S. Justice Department is planning a 2018 inspection of the aging Oklahoma County jail despite being told to stay away.

"We anticipate being on site in the early part of next year," an attorney in the Justice Department's civil rights division wrote in November.

No date has been set.

The Justice Department had wanted to inspect the jail Nov. 6-10 but county commissioners voted unanimously to deny the request.

The 13-story jail opened in 1991 and came under federal oversight in 2009 after an investigation found 60 civil rights violations. County officials dispute some findings but agreed to make corrections.
