Oklahoma designers: Belk is having a fashion design competition

It’s time once again for Belk’s Southern Designer Showcase as it seeks fashion designers with a connection to the South,

And, yes, Oklahoma falls into Belk’s Southern territory. So, Oklahoma designers, if your collection features women’s apparel, men’s apparel, kids’ apparel, shoes or women’s accessories, get your pitch ready. Winners will be featured in the store and online for spring 2019.

“I love that the Southern Designer Showcase gives us the opportunity to help talented Southern designers accomplish their dreams,” said Nir Patel, executive vice president and general merchandise manager of men's, kids', home and global sourcing for Belk.  “This competition not only provides emerging designers a platform to expand their brand, but also gives us access to creative minds focused on the latest trends in southern fashion."

The winners will be announced immediately following the finalists’ presentations on June 21. Along with a cash prize, their collections will be sold in select Belk stores and on Belk.com. Each designer also will have the opportunity to learn about production and in-store and online merchandising.

Applicants can visit Belk.com/southerndesigner to submit their applications April 30. Designers must be 18 or older and currently live in the South or have a strong connection to the region. A panel of Belk executives will select a group of finalists by May 18 and invite them to present their designs at Belk headquarters in Charlotte, N.C., on June 21.

In Oklahoma, Belk has stores in Stillwater, Owasso and Tulsa. Belk was founded in 1888 in North Carolina and has 293 stores in 16 Southern states.
