New Unmarked Parking Spots in Plaza District Drawing Confusion, $25 Tickets
For those concerned about parking along Blackwelder Avenue in the Plaza District and confusion over tickets, Jeff Struble shares that concern.
Struble recently added dozens of much needed parking spots to the thriving district but that came with a cost that is being covered through a relatively inexpensive charge of $1 an hour, $2 minimum on weekdays and a flat $5 a space on weekends.
Struble also followed the lead of Midtown Renassaince and created street parking along his easement along Blackwelder Avenue just south of NW 16 (in front of The Mule) that is also paid parking (same charges).
This should be a simple matter. The parking meter was installed. But American Parking, which is contracted to run the operation and runs the one in Midtown, did not put up signs explaining all this to visitors.
As a result, American Parking is printing out $25 parking “tickets” to those who are not paying because they aren’t seeing any signs indicating payment is required. American Parking representatives were out of the office as I started looking into this.
Struble is urging those who received tickets or continue to receive tickets until the signs are installed to call American Parking at 405-232-3171 or 918-932-7234.
“We’re meeting Wednesday because they’re supposed to have signage out there,” Struble said Friday evening. “There have been some missteps. We want those tickets (that have been issued for the street parking spots) to be waived. If people call American Parking they should be able to do something about it.”
