This is a big year for fashion icon Ralph Lauren.

His brand turns 50 and the Council of Fashion Designers of America celebrated Lauren’s impact with a tribute at the 2018 CFDA Awards ceremony Sunday evening. He was recognized with a CFDA Members Salute, the first in the history of the organization.

Lauren’s accolades also include the CFDA Lifetime Award in 1991 and the CFDA American Fashion Legend Award in 2007. It all began in 1967 when he started selling ties. The next year he established Ralph Lauren Polo and the rest is, well, fashion history.

To commemorate the designer’s mark on fashion, Women’s Wear Daily has released “WWD: Fifty Years of Ralph Lauren,” a 192-page book filled with many archival photographs.

Published by Rizzoli, this is WWD’s first book on an individual designer.

“Some people keep diaries of their daily lives,” Lauren wrote in the book. “I never had to, because DNR and WWD have been looking over my shoulder since 1964 — three years before I even started Polo. ... There’s little that they’ve missed, and all of it shared around the world with great heart and soul, integrity and fairness.”

The book includes illustrations, rare ’70s runway photos and WWD stories through the decades. Lauren is 78.

His fashion empire includes a collection of women’s wear, men’s wear, children’s wear, fragrance, home goods and accessories.
