Dan Proctor, a longtime leader with the metro Salvation Army, died June 21 in Florida. He was 66.

Proctor, a native of Miami, Florida, grew up in a Salvation Army family headed by his father Major Glenn Proctor, who served in South Carolina and Texas with the faith-based organization.

Dan Proctor attended college in Texas and entered the Salvation Army Training College in Atlanta in 1976, where he was commissioned two years later. He served as a single officer in Mississippi before marrying his wife, Francina, in 1981.

Together the couple served throughout the Salvation Army's Southern Territory. Major Proctor, as he was called, was known as a proficient euphonium player and he played in several bands including the Salvation Army's Texas Divisional Band, Southern Territorial Band and National Capital Divisional Band.

Proctor served as area commander for the Salvation Army's Central Oklahoma Area Command from 2009 to 2013. Although he had been reassigned to another Salvation Army post, Proctor returned to Oklahoma City for the grand opening of the Salvation Army's Chesapeake Energy Center of Hope in 2014.

At the time, he said he marveled at seeing the new facility come to fruition at last.

"When we left, this was an empty field out here, and now look what God has done," he said.

Proctor is survived by his wife and their two daughters, Kally and Kaylene, his father Major Glenn Proctor, brothers Earnest and Glenn Proctor Jr. and sisters Carol Kennedy and Pat Earp.

A celebration of life service is set for Sunday at the Salvation Army Tamp Corps in Tampa, Florida. Interment will be Tuesday in Atlanta.
