Energy FC gets much needed win
Jose Barril, Philip Rasmussen and Alex Dixon each scored goals Wednesday night as Energy FC downed LA Galaxy II, 3-1, Wednesday night night in Carson, California.
LA Galaxy II scored first as Frank Striker converted a penalty kick after he was fouled by Justin Chavez.
Oklahoma City tied the match in the 41st minute when Barril, streaking ahead of LA defenders, took a pass from Adam Jahn and carried the ball into the box before kicking it past goalie Eric Lopez.
The game was tied 1-1 at half. Energy FC took the lead in the 72nd minute on a goal by Rasmussen off an assist from Kyle Hyland. Dixon sealed the victory nine minutes later when he scored after a pass from Callum Ross.
Oklahoma City picked up three points with the win and are now five points out of the eighth and final playoff spot in the United Soccer League's Western Conference standings.
Energy FC is in 10th place, four points behind Reno 1868 FC and five points behind both Saint Louis FC and San Antonio FC, who are tied for eighth.
Oklahoma City (11-14-5) has four games remaining and one at home. Energy FC returns to action in the final home match of the regular season on Sept. 23 against Sacramento Republic FC. Game time is 6 p.m. at Taft Stadium.
