The Morning Brew: Edmondson, Stitt debate tonight

candidates ready to rumble

Mortgage broker Kevin Stitt and former Attorney General Drew Edmondson will square off in a debate tonight. Both men are running for governor of Oklahoma, and the debate signals that the long slog to election day is underway.

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Drew Edmondson and Republican rival Kevin Stitt have begun their general election campaigns portraying themselves as the agents of change Oklahoma needs.

Stitt, a Tulsa businessman making his first run for office, toppled two pillars of the Oklahoma Republican establishment to win the GOP nomination: Lt. Gov. Todd Lamb, who was seemingly groomed to run for governor; and Mick Cornett, the celebrated former mayor of Oklahoma City.

Edmondson can't, like Stitt, claim outsider status since he spent nearly three decades in elected office. He is pitching himself as a change from Republican Gov. Mary Fallin while charging that Stitt represents a continuation of her policies.
