Nichols Hills homeowner shoots alleged auto burglar Thursday morning

NICHOLS HILLS - A homeowner opened fire on a man breaking into his pickup Thursday morning, police chief Steven Cox said.

The man who was shot has been identified as Kraig Willis, Cox said. Cox said Willis faces a complaint of burglary. Willis was hospitalized Thursday.

The homeowner, whose name was not released, was questioned by police.

Willis did not have a weapon, Cox said.

The homeowner told investigators he caught the man about 6:30 a.m. breaking into his pickup parked in his driveway at 1200 Belford Ave. Nichols Hills police requested OSBI assistance.

The man who was shot was found him hiding between nearby houses on Belford Avenue and arrested by police. Cox did not say whether the man had a weapon.

It will be up to the district attorney's office to determine if the shooting was justified under Oklahoma law, Cox said. The homeowner is not in custody.

Names of those involved have not been released.
