Local cooks continue national TV procession
There’s been no shortage of local cooking talent on display across the country lately with plenty more on the schedule.
On Monday, local baker Lan McCabe appeared on Food Network’s “Christmas Cookie Challenge.” McCabe, who operates Sweets on the Side out of her home, took on an international cast of competitors before a panel of judges that included Oklahoma’s Pioneer Woman Ree Drummond.
Kathryn McNutt caught up with Lan this week.
Food Network will re-air the episode on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Then on Nov. 24 local bakers Jennifer and Brenda Havenar will appear on Discovery Family Channel’s “Bake it Like Buddy.”
The Havenars operate Cakes by Jen out of Brenda’s house. On this post-Black Friday edition of chef Buddy Valastro’s cake competition show, the Havenars take on a team from New York City in a gingerbread cake battle.
The episode airs at 8 p.m. on Discovery Family Channel.
December promises another opportunity to root on local talent. Chef Kevin Lee of Vast and Gogi Go will appear on "Guy's Grocery Games" on Food Network come Dec.12. Kevin follows in the esteemed footsteps of chefs Beth Lyon, and Shelby Sieg who appeared on the show earlier this year.

On Thursday, Bricktown Brewery will host an autumn tapping party to unveil its newest original brew, Harvest Ale.
“We used dark caramel malts to create the unusual flavor,” said Bricktown Masterbrewer,
Mike Noonan. “We’ve brewed an autumn ale that incorporates many flavors, including
pumpkin, allspice, cinnamon and clove.”
Bricktown Brewery offers shareable plates, burgers, sandwiches, pizza, salads, and desserts in five locations, including Bricktown, Midwest City, Shawnee, Remington Park and Edmond.
The COOP Ale Works taproom, 4745 Council Heights Rd., will extend hours those more interested in hops and suds than sales and lines.
The COOP Taproom will be open from noon. to 8 p.m. on Nov. 23, serving a variety of beers, from COOP’s lineup of core favorites, featured seasonal beers and brewery-only releases.
