UPDATED: Vast's chef Kevin Lee wins it big on Triple-G
What’s clearly lining up to be a big year for local chef Kevin Lee got off to a white-hot start as evidenced by tonight's $20,000-winning appearance on Food Network's“Guy’s Grocery Games.”
Lee took on three other contestants in an episode filmed in May that premiered Wednesday night on Food Network.
Look for him to appear on a future episode of the show to add onto the stack he said was designated for his children's education. During the episode a photograph of his adorable little girl Lilliana, but she will have to split the winnings with the Lee family's newest addition, a brother.
As of tonight's airing, Lee was on stand-by for the birth of child No. 2.
“We had a false alarm on Sunday, so we’re kind of on stand-by,” he said.
An appearance on national TV and the birth of his first son are just the warm up. Lee will spend part of 2019 helping open a second Gogi Go location in Edmond, but more importantly he will leave his post as executive chef of Vast.
Lee’s not quite ready to announce where he's headed, but his departure leaves some big shoes to fill. So big Vast’s Director of Culinary Operations Kurt Fleischfresser has chosen to fill each with its own chef. Chad Epley and Paul Langer will cover Lee's duties atop the Devon Tower.
Food Network hasn't yet scheduled Lee's next appearance on Triple-G, but it shouldn't be long. In fact, it shouldn't be too long until even more local talent is under the national cable channel's spotlight.
Local diners might soon have an opportunity to appear as background scenery on Food Network. A source tells me film crews are due in town as early as next month to point their cameras five Oklahoma City chefs for a future production. So plan dining apparel accordingly.
