NORMAN — A kick-off rally for the 2019 "40 Days for Life" campaign is set for 6:30 p.m. Monday at St. Mark the Evangelist Church, 3939 W Tecumseh Road.

The rally will feature guest speakers Chris Davis of 40 Days for Life, Linda Wells of Eden Clinic and Julie Lewis of Sidewalk Advocates.

The "40 Days for Life" anti-abortion campaign, which begins Wednesday, involves 40 days of prayer and fasting, peaceful vigil and community outreach, said Connie Lang, who is coordinating the local campaign.

As part of the annual non-denominational initiative, volunteers will gather for a 40-day prayer vigil in the public right-of-way outside Abortion Surgery Center, 2453 in Norman. All prayer vigil participants are asked to sign a statement of peace, pledging to conduct themselves in a Christ-like manner at all times. Norman is one of more than 800 cities around the country conducting simultaneous campaigns from Wednesday through April 14.
