OKC district school locator updated to reflect closures
Oklahoma City Public Schools on Wednesday updated its online school locator to reflect planned closures, building conversions and boundary changes for the 2019-20 school year.
Parents with children who attend a school that is being closed, reconfigured or relocated can type in their address to verify their assigned school or schools for the coming year and beyond.
Fifteen schools — Edgemere, Edwards, Gatewood, Green Pastures, Horace Mann, Johnson, Linwood, North Highland, Oakridge, Pierce, Putnam Heights, Sequoyah, Telstar, and Westwood elementary schools and Oklahoma Centennial Mid-High will be closed. Six other elementary schools — Capitol Hill, Greystone, F.D. Moon, Mary Golda Ross, Parmelee, and Wheeler — will be converted into middle schools.
The online tool can be found at https://www.okcps.org/Page/3851. It lets parents verify information and plan for the coming year, said Courtney Morton, the district's communications director.
Parents who don't want their kids to attend their assigned school can apply for a transfer or to a school that requires an application, Morton said.
"We hope that people apply for application schools because we're expanding those programs," she said.
Application schools — Belle Isle Middle School, Classen School of Advanced Studies Middle School, Classen School of Advanced Studies High School, Southeast Middle School, Southeast High School — do not have boundary lines or fit within a feeder pattern, according to the district.
