The quarter horse spring racing season opens Friday at Remington Park

The spring quarter horse racing season opens this weekend at Remington Park.

There will be racing Friday and Saturday beginning at 6 p.m. On Sunday, the first race begins at 1:30 p.m.

The $68,000 Mighty Deck Three Stakes is the richest race of the weekend and will be contested on Friday night.

Throughout the weekend, qualifying trials will be conducted to determine the fields for the March 23 running of the 78th Oklahoma Futurity, the oldest futurity in quarter horse racing.

The quarter horse season runs through June 1.

OU softball sold out for season

Tickets for the remainder of Oklahoma softball's home schedule have been sold out, the OU ticket office announced Thursday.

The home slate is just three-games old.

OU will host an invitational this weekend with games against Northwestern, Drake and Grand Canyon. The Sooners and Wildcats will open play at 6 p.m. Friday at Marita Hynes Field.

The Oklahoma Board of Regents approved plans last summer for a new $22 million softball stadium to be built at the northwest corner of Jenkins Avenue and Imhoff Road.

Capacity would increase from 1,378 to 3,000.

Energy FC opens season Saturday

Energy FC will open its 2019 campaign in the United Soccer League on the road Saturday in El Paso, Texas.

Oklahoma City will play El Paso Locomotive FC in an 8:30 p.m. match.

The first home match for Energy FC will be March 16 at Taft Stadium against Las Vegas Lights FC. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
