The Harding Charter Preparatory High School speech and debate team recently placed second in the 5A Team Sweepstakes at the Moore High School tournament. Qualifying for regional competition in Domestic Extemporaneous was Abby Reddick, freshman, first place; in Poetry, Jesslyn Chain, junior, first place; Monologue, Reyna Sun, freshman, second place; and in Humorous Duet, Faith Morrison, freshman, and Sun placed second. In the Lincoln-Douglas Debate category, Evan Galbreath, freshman, placed second and also won Top Speaker. For the Championship Division, the following students placed in the following categories: Public Forum Debate, seniors Alisha Hemani and Nikita Lewchuk placed third; Foreign Extemporaneous, Simone Pico placed third; and Congressional Debate, Alice Bennett, junior, placed second. Harding speech and debate teams are coached by Elizabeth Boomer and Michael Ferguson.

Previous tournament

The Harding Charter Preparatory High School was awarded second place Team Sweepstakes and earned 13 regional qualifications at a previous Crossing Christian Tournament. Competing with 15 other schools, the 11-member team competed in 21 events.This tournament was the first competition for the Policy & Debate team, coached by Elizabeth Bloomer. Policy & Debate team member received the following designations: First place, Camryn O’Dell, sophomore, and Simone Pico, freshman; second place, sophomores Katie Hillemeyer and Megan Surbeck; and third place, sophomores Gage Catteeuw and Rori Reiswig.Other awards in the Humorous Interp category, included third place, Faith Morrison, freshman; and Poetry category, third place, Alisha Hemani, senior.
