Weeklong vacations for Thanksgiving, fall break coming with Tulsa Public Schools' redesigned 2019-20 calendar
Beginning next school year, fall and Thanksgiving breaks will last all week as part of an effort to crack down on chronic absenteeism within Tulsa Public Schools.
District officials redesigned the 2018-19 school calendar to reduce the number of short weeks from 11 this year to six. Those remaining include the first week of school from Aug. 21-23 and weeks with federal holidays, such as Martin Luther King Jr. Day and President’s Day.
The TPS data team began working with ImpactTulsa about a year ago to analyze factors surrounding student attendance and learned that absences are much more prevalent during short weeks.
