Putnam North's Micah Thomas reopens recruitment

On Tuesday, Putnam City North guard Micah Thomas received Big Ten Conference Player of the Year honors. On Thursday, he announced via Twitter his recruitment had reopened.

Thomas signed with Southern Illinois-Edwardsville in November. On March 12, the school fired Jon Harris, who garnered a 31-88 record during four seasons. Thomas cited the coaching change as a reason he requested and was granted his release.

"After a long talk with my parents and relatives, I have decided to reopen my recruitment due to the recent coaching change at SIUE," Thomas said in the statement. "I would like to give a special thanks to SIUE for recruiting me and the recruiting process, as well as, granting my release."

After capturing a Class 6A state title last season, Thomas and the Panthers finished runners-up to Tulsa Booker T. Washington this season.

Thomas is a three-star guard, per Rivals. He held offers from Tulsa, Oral Roberts and Missouri State before signing with SIU Edwardsville.
