Energy FC signs defender after losing Taravel

Energy FC signed defender Mike da Fonte, pending league and federation approval, head coach Steve Cooke announced Thursday

The 27-year-old da Fonte, formerly of MLS' Colorado Rapids, joins Oklahoma City after spending the 2018 season with the United Soccer League's Western Conference Champions Phoenix Rising FC.

Energy FC lost defender Nicolas Taravel for the season after he suffered a knee injury in the club's 4-1 loss Sunday at Sacramento FC.

Oklahoma City travels to Reno 1868 FC Saturday for an 8 p.m. match. Energy FC, 2-1 on the season, returns home to face Portland Timbers 2 on April 6 at Taft Stadium.

Stillwater site of Big 12 Equestrian Championship

The third-ranked Oklahoma State Cowgirls' equestrian team hosts the Big 12 Equestrian Championship on Friday and Saturday at Totusek Arena in Stillwater.

No. 7 TCU and No. 4 Baylor will be competing in the event. OSU is the defending Big 12 champion and its reigning team is ranked No. 1 in the country.

OU tennis teams host Big 12 matches

Oklahoma women’s tennis team will host No. 6 Texas on Friday at 4 p.m. and the 17h-ranked Sooners' men squad will face No. 27 Oklahoma State at 7 p.m. at the Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman.

The Sooners' women team is ranked No. 30 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings. Admission is free and food trucks will be present at Friday's matches.
