Fire alarm leads to discovery of $80K in stolen tires, rims
EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- Detectives are investigating after more than $80,000 worth of stolen tires and rims were found at an East Providence property.
According to city police, first responders were dispatched to 912 Broadway for a fire alarm around 5 a.m. Sunday. Upon noticing possible building code violations, they contacted the city fire marshal's office, who in turn notified the city building inspector's office. The two agencies ordered the building closed for multiple safety and building violations, police said.
During their walk-through, they also noticed a significant amount of tires and rims stored in two garage bays, some appearing to be brand new.
