A number of important municipal races were decided by voters in and around the Oklahoma City metro area on Tuesday.

In Edmond, voters chose to elect Dan O’Neil as their next mayor. On the ballot, O’Neil faced off against deceased mayor Charles Lamb.

Lamb, who died in December at age 72, had filed for another term shortly before his death. His candidacy was promoted by some Edmond residents who opposed other candidates for mayor, with the hope that if he was re-elected, the city council would pick his successor.

O’Neil garnered 4,385 votes, or 67.01%, while Lamb had 2,159 votes, or 32.99%, according to unofficial results.

"Honored, humbled and thrilled are the best words to describe the feelings I have right now," O'Neil said Tuesday night. "I am ready to get to work for the citizens of Edmond. It is my goal to unite our town and continue work to make Edmond a city like no other."

Mayoral elections were also held in Choctaw and Piedmont.

In Choctaw, incumbent Mayor Randy Ross claimed a majority of voters with 646 votes cast, or 61.41% Opponent Zachary J. Vargas garnered 406 votes, or 38.59%

Piedmont residents chose Kurt Mayabb as their next mayor. Mayabb took 43.49% of votes, while opponent John Bickerstaff took 26.39% of the vote and Bobby Williamson took 30.12% of votes.

In Norman, residents voted on propositions covering city infrastructure. Proposition 1, which would fund transportation project across the city, received 66.27% of the vote in favor of the works. A majority of voters, 57.39%, rejected Proposition 2, which would have funded stormwater infrastructure projects.

Similarly, voters rejected Proposition 3, which would fund other stormwater projects, with 60.33% against the proposal.
