In July of 1890, Vincent van Gogh died in obscurity in Auvers-sur-Oise, France at the age of 37. Having succumbed to the same end as many a great artist, he left this world having never seen the success his work would become. Nicole Poole is determined not to let history repeat itself.

The daughter of the late Oklahoma artist O. Gail Poole, who passed in 2013, Nicole walked away from a life traveling between New York City and Paris, France, to embark on a mission to ensure the world knows her father’s art.

On this month’s episode of OETA's "Gallery America," Nicole opens the vaults, as it were, to show the world her father’s prolific body of work. Poole’s range included portraiture in the style of the Dutch Masters, landscapes that would be at home in any museum, still life, abstract, sculptures and, work in the style of his hero, Van Gogh.

Find out what happens when a woman who knows little about the art world suddenly inherits responsibility for a creative legacy.

The latest episode of "Gallery America" premieres at 7 tonight on the Oklahoma Educational Television Authority. In the meantime, read my 2013 interview with Nicole Poole about her efforts to preserve and promote her father's legacy by clicking here.

"Gallery America" is OETA's Emmy Award-winning arts and culture series. "Gallery America" captures the best Oklahoma has to offer in all forms of art, including dance, sculpture, education, music, painting, photography and performances.
