Enable Midstream Partners’ CEO joined students at John Rex Charter School on Wednesday to unveil the Enable Innovation Space there.

The Enable Innovation Space enhances science, technology, engineering, arts and math studies by providing access to multi-touch screens, virtual reality software, robotics, art stations and more.

Officials said the space is designed to encourage students to learn through active participation and problem solving.

“John Rex Charter School is lucky to have neighbors like Enable who understand the importance of hands-on learning,” said Joe Pierce, head of the school, who added teachers already are seeing positive results from students using the space.

Officials said Enable Midstream Partners contributed $25,000 to the school to create the space as part of the 1st and STEM initiative it created through a partnership with football programs at the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University.

For every first down the teams gained during the past season, Enable donated $25 to John Rex Charter School.

Enable president and CEO Rod Sailor said the company is committed to increasing access to STEM education.

“One of the aspects of Enable’s culture is the spirit of innovation,” said Sailor. “We want to foster that same spirit in this generation of students, promoting inquiring minds and introducing kids to technical curriculum early in their educations.”

Enable’s gift also allowed the school to acquire video production equipment, curriculum modules, drones and more.

John Rex Charter School, at 500 W Sheridan, offers a quality education to economically and racially diverse students, officials said.
