Carrie Underwood and MercyMe nominated for 2019 Billboard Music Awards
Carrie Underwood, who hails from Checotah, and MercyMe, which got its start in Edmond, are among the nominees for the 2019 Billboard Music Awards.
Underwood is nominated for Top Country Female Artist and Top Country Album for her 2018 release "Cry Pretty." MercyMe earned a nod for Top Christian Artist, according to Billboard.com.
Kelly Clarkson will host the 2019 Billboard Music Awards live from the MGM Garden Arena in Las Vegas on May 1. The show will air at 7 p.m. on NBC.
Cardi B leads all contenders, with 21 nominations in 18 categories, just missing the record for most nominations set by Drake and The Chainsmokers, who each had 22 in 2017. The "I Like It" rapper will compete against herself in three categories: Top Hot 100 Song, Top-selling Song and Top Collaboration.
