Kingfisher man arrested Friday, accused of killing, dismembering girlfriend
KINGFISHER — A 62-year-old man was arrested Friday after authorities said he admitted his girlfriend of nearly a decade was dead and he dismembered her body.
On Thursday, Kingfisher police were notified by the sister of Brenda Baber, 56, that she was missing. Baber’s sister said she had last spoken to her by phone on Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.
Police went to Baber’s home, in the 400 block of W Sheridan Avenue, where they saw items that Baber would not have normally left behind, including her walker and medications. On Friday, Kingfisher police requested assistance from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation on what they thought was a possible homicide.
OSBI agents began going through the home Friday morning and found evidence “consistent with human remains.” Agents took Baber’s boyfriend, Steven Stricker, into custody and during an interview, he reportedly admitted that Baber was dead and that he had dismembered her body, OSBI officials said.
A search of the home’s backyard revealed more human remains and a neighbor told investigators that he had seen Stricker burning in his firepit recently.
Stricker was taken to the Kingfisher County jail.
“Our sincere condolences and prayers go out to the Baber family and Brenda's Kingfisher friends and acquaintances during this difficult time,” Kingfisher police officials said in a Friday news release.
