NORMAN — Oklahoma softball’s winning streak grew to 25 games over the weekend after a series sweep of Baylor.

It’s the longest winning streak in the country, and the fourth longest in program history.

The Sooners also set a school record Sunday by winning their 46th consecutive home game, besting a mark of 45 consecutive home wins from April 2000 to March 2002.

Weekend record: 3-0

Overall record: 35-2 (6-0 Big 12)

Triple crown?

Sydney Romero picked up six more hits, four RBI and a home run over the weekend.

The senior third baseman is now leading the Big 12 in all three triple crown categories: batting average (.455), home runs (14) and RBI (38).

“I don’t pay attention to it,” Romero said. “It’s not one of my main priorities. I’m more team. I want to win a national championship.”

She set career highs last year with a .395 average, 12 home runs and 61 RBI.

Another award

Senior second baseman Caleigh Clifton was named Big 12 Player of the Week for the second time in her career. It’s the ninth weekly award won by a Sooner this season.

Clifton recorded five hits in seven at-bats over the weekend, including two triples and a home run. She drove in five runs over three games against Baylor.

The Wayne native leads the Sooners with a .554 on-base percentage. She’s hitting .430 and has walked 23 times against just 10 strikeouts. Her on-base percentage ranks 13th nationally.

Rankings watch

The Sooners held steady at No. 2 in the recently released ESPN.com/USA Softball poll. OU trails only UCLA (35-1).

Oklahoma ranks third in the RPI behind Florida State and UCLA — the only two teams to have beaten the Sooners.

Up next

Oklahoma will travel to Kansas for a three-game weekend series against the Jayhawks (14-24, 2-4 Big 12).

OU and Kansas will play at 5 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and noon Sunday at Arrocha Ballpark.
