Scooter driver killed in Wednesday crash in Edmond
EDMOND — A 61-year-old man died Wednesday afternoon after he was injured during a wreck involving a scooter and a pickup, police said.
About 1 p.m. Wednesday, James Thompson was driving the scooter west on Edmond Road, between Fretz Avenue and Walnut Street, when it was struck by a pickup also traveling west on Edmond Road.
Thompson, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead about 35 minutes after the wreck, police said.
The driver of the pickup, Juan Cruces-Landeros, 30, reportedly told police that he was an undocumented worker and did not have a driver’s license, officials said.
Cruces-Landeros was arrested at the scene on complaints of driving without a license and causing an accident without a valid license that resulted in a death.
