Edmond North's Maddie Medina signs with OU
Edmond North girls track coach Cara Bowerman knew Maddie Medina was close to finding the right college.
The senior distance runner was waiting for her best opportunity. Oklahoma provided that.
Medina signed with OU on Wednesday, and she will run cross country and track for the Sooners. Bowerman said her focus for track will likely be the 800 and up.
Medina broke two prominent Edmond North track records during spring break. On March 16, Medina captured the 1600-meter race mark at the Texas Distance Festival in Southlake in 5:07.73. Emma Walter held the previous record of 5:11.44.
The following weekend, she broke former Husky standout Jaci Smith’s two-mile record, running it in 11:05.39 at the Jesuit Sheaner Relays. Smith's record was 11:11.58.
